Are you a homeowner over the age of 62? Do you live in an area of Florida that the USDA considers a rural area? Does your income fall below 50 percent of the median income in your area? If you answered yes to all of these questions, it’s likely that you qualify for a grant worth up to $7,500 through the USDA’s Rural Housing Repair Loans and Grants program.
Keep in mind: Grants don’t have to be paid back unless you sell your property within a designated time period. Yet, if you’re not moving within the next few years, you might be able to afford home repairs that were just outside your budget or home improvements you thought were out of reach. The USDA grants can be used to pay for improvements to remove health and safety hazards too, like faulty wiring, mold removal, or replacement of an unsafe porch.
