Visit Big Kahuna’s Water and Adventure Park
Big Kahuna’s Water and Adventure Park
1007 US Highway 98 East
Website: http://www.bigkahunas.com (Turn off your speakers – their website auto-plays music.)
Plenty of rides and slides, rivers and pools, and even a whole host of kids’ rides await you at Big Kahuna’s, which is the largest water park on the Emerald Coast. Check out the Kowabunga Racer or Hammerhead, or spend your day in Bombs Away Bay or having an exciting adventure on Humunga River.
Head to the Destin History and Fishing Museum
Destin History and Fishing Museum
108 Stahlman Avenue
The Destin History & Fishing Museum is a great place to spend the day. This non-profit organization maintains 5,500 square feet of exhibit space that covers everything from early Native Americans to the modern development and growth of the village. You’ll be able to explore historic boats, including the seine boat “Primrose,” the mullet boat “Lil’ Jimmy” and more. You can also check out more than 75 mounts of locally caught fish and learn about the science behind Destin’s white, sandy beaches. Kids can take part in scavenger hunts and join guided tours or explore alone.
Check Out Henderson Beach State Park
Henderson Beach State Park
17000 Emerald Coast Parkway
Henderson Beach State Park is one of Destin’s best-kept secrets. At $6 per vehicle for a pass, you can take the whole family bicycling, camping (across 60 campsites), fishing for pompano, red fish and flounder (and sometimes cobia), or geocaching on a real treasure hunt. The three-quarter-mile hiking trail is pet-friendly, and there are six pavilions featuring barbecue grills, picnic tables and restroom facilities. Swimming along the mile-long beach is a great experience – the water’s typically calm, but watch the colored flags to be sure. Bird watching and sea turtle and dolphin sighting are popular here, too.
