Does your interior design feel a little stale? If you’re interested in trying something different consider these simple, budget-friendly ways to take your home from stale to styled.
Enlarge Your Windows Without a Hammer
Curtain rods are magic wands for making your windows look larger. You can achieve the illusion of added width to your windows by allowing the rods to overhang the window frames—some design pros cheat by up to 15 inches on each side. Curtains that meet the end of the window frame and extend along the overhang will trick the eye into thinking that part of the wall is actually your window pane. Use a thick fabric when attempting this trick. A very thin one won’t hide the point where the window frame ends, since light will pass through. For a taller-looking window simply hang the same curtain rod at or near the ceiling.
Paint With a Popular Pigment
Nothing can transform the look and feel of your space faster and cheaper than a fresh coat of paint. But what hue should you choose? A poll taken this year by the home improvement website Fixr asked top remodeling experts about the paint colors they feel will trend this year. Cool neutrals, which include shades like light gray, taupe, and white, were voted the most popular interior colors with 57 percent of remodeling pros choosing them over warm neutrals, jewel tones, and pastels. If you’ve got a small space that you want to make appear larger, or more open and airy, a cool neutral could be the perfect hue for you.
Bring the Outdoors In
Few things add life to a space better than well-placed indoor plants. If you don’t have a lot of floor space for greenery you can place plants on floating shelves, which can be especially fitting for those with limbs that cascade. For plants that can double as accessories consider placing a terrarium atop your coffee table for a look that goes beyond just a coffee table book.
