Keeping kids’ rooms tidy is a huge chore – no matter how many children you have. And if you’re like most parents, you just want to close the door and not worry about it.
But there are three things you can declutter right now to help your kids keep their own rooms organized.
3 Things to Declutter in Your Kids’ Rooms to Start 2020 With a Clean Slate
The best way to minimize the “stuff” in your kids’ rooms is to start with:
- Clothing and shoes
- Artwork that won’t make it to your refrigerator
- Outgrown toys and books
Here’s a closer look at each.
#1. Clothing and Shoes
Kids’ closets can get out of control quickly because they grow – and require so clothes – so quickly. Now’s a great time to go through your little ones’ closets to find what they’ve outgrown, what’s stained or torn, and what they’ve never even worn.
If you have a friend or relative with a child smaller than yours, you have a built-in solution – you can send them home with him or her. If not, consider donating to the Purple Heart (they do pickups!) or another organization.
#2. Artwork
When your children create masterful works of art, it’s tempting to hang on to them – but if they’re like most kids, there will be thousands of masterful works of art throughout their childhoods. Consider investing in a binder where you can keep all their drawings together – otherwise, it might be time to recycle the paper to clear out the clutter.
#3. Outgrown Toys and Books
Kids lose interest in some toys faster than others, and they outgrow them just as quickly. Go through your children’s toys to find out what they don’t play with any longer (or never did) and think about donating them.
