Whether you love to cook, or you’ve never used your oven or stovetop, an organized kitchen means you can get in and out with less hassle. Consider these quick tips to keep things neat and organized.
Grab Bag Box
What do you do with all of your plastic grocery store shopping bags? Do you ball them up and stuff them into a drawer or lower cabinet, only for them to come popping out each time you open the door? Here’s a more organized approach. Create a grab bag box, a canister where you can store the bags and pull them out one-by-one as you need them. But we don’t mean just stuffing them into the canister. Here’s how you do it.
Flatten out your collection of plastic bags one on top of the other, then roll them together into a compact circle like you would a sleeping bag (or in the same manner as those tasty store-bought cinnamon rolls in the refrigerated section). Place the rolled bags into a canister, like the ones that hold hard candy or peanuts (unless anyone in your family has a peanut allergy). Cut an X-shaped slit into the plastic lid of the canister, then pull the first bag through the opening. Voila! If you wish, you can decorate the outside of the canister and create a label for your new grab bag box.
Smartly-Stored Stemware
You can maximize the capacity of your cabinets with clever storage techniques. For instance, consider how you store your elegant wineglasses. Instead of placing them all upside down or right side up next to each other in your cabinets, alternate between the two positions—you’ll fit more glasses into the same space. Also, place your most frequently used items near bottom shelves, and nest your plates, bowls, and casserole dishes.
Over-the-Door Organization
Over-the-door pocket organizers aren’t just for bedroom closets. They can work wonders inside your kitchen pantry and accommodate items that you can’t fit on your shelves. These organizers, especially ones with clear pockets, can be perfect for holding things like individually packaged snacks, boxes of pasta, small canned goods like tuna or sardines, and any miscellaneous items that are difficult to stack.
