Q & A: Should Your Realtor(R) Make You Sign a Contract to See Houses?

Question: I found a few agents, and they each want me to sign a contract that says they’ll get the commission if I end up buying the house in the future.

Is that normal?

Answer: Sometimes.

An agent can ask you to sign a contract that says he or she will represent you in your real estate transaction.

You don’t have to. You can keep looking for an agent until you find one you’re comfortable working with. (In fact, you should only work with an agent you’re comfortable working with. Buying a home is a big deal, and you and your agent will be working together throughout the entire transaction.)
