Ready to reduce more household clutter? Here are three additional items to target.
Obsolete Electronics Cords and Cables
Over the years you may acquire an assortment of cords, cables, chargers, and adapters for various electronic devices that eventually become obsolete as newer innovations emerge. So, as the saying goes: Out with the old and in with the new. Unfortunately you can’t just toss your jumbles of old chords into the recycle bin. You may, however, be able to dispose of them at your local electronics retailer. Things like adapters, rechargeable batteries, wires, cords, and other accessories may be accepted.
CDs and CD Cases
There’s a reason why your collection of CDs is covered with dust—because of the infinitely more convenient ways to listen to music. When eliminating or thinning-out your collection avoid throwing CDs into the trash or recycle bin, since they are made of something called #7 plastic, which is a general category for plastics that are composed of multi-layered resins. These resins sometimes contain trace amounts of an additive called BPA (bisphenol A), which could pose serious health risks. As a result, CDs won’t be accepted by many curbside recyclers.
The good news is you can offload your unwanted CDs by mailing them to CD Recycling Center of America.
Old Books
You’ve read them all—so many times that you’ve lost count. If you’re ready to part with some books in your collection consider donating them to a library, charity, or thrift store. If some of your books aren’t in good enough condition to donate you should know that paperbacks can be recycled, but hardback books are not recyclable because the cloth, leather, and plastic binding that’s used to make them durable can’t be easily separated from the pages.
