When you list your home for sale, you want it to sell. If you’re like most people, you’ll be fine if it doesn’t sell immediately for more than what you’re asking – but you do want to sell it in a reasonable amount of time and at a reasonable price.
So what happens if nobody’s buying? Should you give up on selling your home?
Here’s what you need to know – and a few options that might help you out a bit.
When Should You Give Up on Selling Your Home?
Any Realtor(R) can tell you that buyers can be unpredictable. Even if you’ve listed your home at the right price, staged it perfectly and took all your 30A Realtor‘s advice to heart, your house could be the one that sits on the market week after week with no offers.
If you’re like many sellers, you want to throw in the towel. But that brings up other problems, too. What if you were supposed to (or already did) move halfway across the country? What if your mortgage is too expensive and you needed to sell to get out from under it?
Your best bet is to sit down and have a heart-to-heart with your Realtor about what’s best for your needs. In some cases, you might consider lowering the price on your home or making upgrades that appeal to buyers. In other cases, you might want to think about renting out your home until you can try selling it again.

Lowering Your Home’s Price
It’s not always a good idea to lower your home’s price, particularly if it’s been sitting on the market for a while. Homes that have been listed for several weeks stop appearing in the top of search results, and that can mean fewer showings.
Before you make any big decisions, talk to your agent about lowering your home’s price. You may have better options.

Making Improvements
If you’ve had showings but no offers, start thinking about the feedback you received from the people who came to see your home. Did they dislike the carpet? Were the walls too shabby-looking? Is there anything at all in the feedback that you can use to improve the house’s appeal?

This type of feedback can be tough to look at, but don’t take it personally. It’s important that you have an inside look at what today’s buyers are interested in so you can make the necessary improvements to sell your home.
